The Riches of God’s Wisdom

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgments and untraceable His ways! For who has know the mind of the Lord? Or who has been His counselor? Or who has ever first given to Him, and has to be repaid? For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.” ~Romans 11:33-36

As I’ve grown older the challenges of life have grown in complexity. At times, my husband and I have faced difficult situations in our marriage, while parenting our children in this age of social media has left us wondering what we should do. How should we respond in a way that would be glorifying to God? Am I doing the right thing? Lord, guide us as we navigate this hard situation. dan-wayman-1299111-unsplash

We’ve all had instances like this. When dealing with something hard we ask ourselves how we should deal with situations that are out of our control. I don’t always know how to respond or what to do. Thankfully, our gracious God himself is wise. He has all the answers. I just have to go to Him in prayer.

Through wisdom God created the heavens and the earth (Proverbs 3:19). Through wisdom He provided a way for His people who rejected Him to restore access to Him. Through wisdom He has a plan to redeem us forever. In His wisdom He gave His only son Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for our sins. God’s wisdom is remarkable. His thoughts are above our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). In His generosity and loving kindness, He wants to grant us wisdom, too. The book of James reminds us all we need to do is ask.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” ~James 1:5

We saw an example of this very thing in 1 Kings 3:5. God came to Solomon, the son of David, in a dream. Solomon loved the LORD and asked him to name anything he wanted. God was willing to grant his request. Instead of riches or long life, Solomon asked for a wise and discerning heart. God was pleased with his request and granted it. Solomon became the wisest man on earth.

“And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore.” ~1 Kings 4:29

God’s wisdom is perfect, unchanging, and infinite. He knows everything. We might not understand his ways, but we can trust that because God is infinitely wise, he truly works all things out in the best possible way. Like Solomon, I pray we would all turn to God and seek his wisdom in all areas of our lives.
